The Road Hammers is a Canadian country rock group composed of Jason McCoy, Clayton Bellamy and Chris Byrne. Formed by McCoy as a side project, the trio's music is influenced by 1960s and 1970s trucker music and Southern rock. Their first self-titled album included remakes of several classic truck-driving songs. It was recognized with a Juno Award in 2006, along with numerous Canadian Country Music Association awards. After five years together, the group went on hiatus after one last show on December 31, 2010 in Langley, British Columbia. The group reformed in 2013 and released Wheels in 2014.[1] In May 2017, The Road Hammers released their latest album, The Squeeze.[2]

History[edit]
The Road Hammers was founded in 2004 as a project by lead singer and guitarist Jason McCoy, a multiple Canadian Country Music Association male vocalist of the year winner. He stated the idea was to play trucker music, and came together with two other musicians with similar views on music - country-rocker Clayton Bellamy, whose father is a truck driver, and bassist Chris Byrne, a Newfoundlander. The first sign of the band was in a video by Paul Brandt for his remake of the classic song 'Convoy'. McCoy appears in the video, wearing a Road Hammers shirt. Originally the entire band was to appear, but scheduling conflicts didn't allow for that to happen. In addition to recording their self-titled album, the Road Hammers was also the subject of a reality show of the same name on Country Music Television in Canada.
The album The Road Hammers was released in 2005, and received strong reviews for its Southern rock sound and covers of classic songs.[3] It debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian country albums chart.[4] Covers on the album included 'Girl on the Billboard,' the 1965 number-one hit for Del Reeves, 'East Bound and Down' by Jerry Reed, and Little Feat's 'Willin'.' In the wake of the album release, The Road Hammers swept to the upper end of the Canadian country charts; four songs reached the top 10 through 2005 and 2006, and the band was nominated for six CCMA Awards[5] winning Group or Duo of the Year. It was also recognized at the Juno Awards for Country Recording of the Year. The album's success continued into 2006, with the Road Hammers receiving two CCMA awards, Group or Duo of the Year and Best Video.[6]
In July 2007, McCoy stated that the band will be part of a second season of its reality show, following its attempts to secure a recording deal with an American label.[7] In late 2007, The Road Hammers signed to an American record label, Montage Music Group and the group's debut American single, 'I Don't Know When to Quit' was released on December 10. Their second album, entitled Blood, Sweat, and Steel, was released on June 24, 2008.
The Road Hammers released their second Canadian album, The Road Hammers II, on February 24, 2009.[8] The album's first single, 'Homegrown,' has reached the Top 20 of the Canadian country singles chart.

Blackjack Billy is an American country rock group composed of Noll Billings (vocals), Clayton Shay (vocals, bass guitar), Jeff Coplan (electric guitar), and Brad Cummings (drums). Based in Nashville, they describe their music as 'Redneck Rock.' [1] Their debut single, 'The Booze Cruise,' was independently released in March 2013.[2]
SiriusXM satellite radio's new country channel 'The Highway' began playing 'The Booze Cruise' as a Highway 'Find.' It's cited as the biggest-selling song on iTunes by any band without a major record deal in the first half of 2013. As of Aug 12, 2013, the song has sold more than 100K in the US and more than 150K worldwide.[3] It reached gold status in Canada.
Billy Dukes of Taste of Country gave 'The Booze Cruise' four stars out of five, writing that 'clever lyrics and a melody that grabs your attention like that hottie oiling up with sunblock make this an easy song to finish before you realize you’ve begun.'[4] The song was written by Noll Billings, Jeff Coplan and Chuck Jones on August 24, 2011. A writing session was set for that very hot summer day in Nashville, when Billings said that a fun way to spend that day would be to get on a booze cruise. The song was written in 45 minutes.

Founders[edit]
Rob Blackledge is originally from Madison, Mississippi and toured as a solo artist while attending the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Blackledge co-wrote Love & Theft's first top 10 single 'Runaway' with LNT's Stephen Barker Liles and Canaan Smith.[5] (Liles is a musician often cited as the inspiration for Taylor Swift's song 'Hey Stephen,' from her second studio album 'Fearless.') 'Runaway' reached No. 10 on the BillboardHot Country Songs chart.
Noll Billings is originally from Kennett, Missouri and while pursuing a solo career, he signed a publishing deal as a songwriter with EMI Music Group.[6]

Jeff Coplan is originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and lived in New York before relocating to Nashville. Coplan is a songwriter and musician who began producing and engineering projects for others; including Bowling for Soup, Love and Theft, and Tim Hicks. Coplan, together with Robert Ellis Orrall, developed the group Love and Theft and produced their first album. Coplan also co-wrote their #1 hit Angel Eyes with LNT's Eric Gunderson and Eric Paslay.[7] Coplan jumped back onstage with Blackjack Billy, and publishing company is Roots Three Music/Ole.[8]
The three met in Nashville and began writing songs together. Blackjack Billy band members are considered a part of the so-called 'young crop' of country artists finding success; Coplan and Blackledge were on a softball team from 2009-2010 together with Gunderson and Liles of Love and Theft, Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line and Canaan Smith.
Brad Cummings joined in 2012. Cummings is originally from Hendersonville, Tennessee, and previous played drums for Randy Houser and Bobby Bare Jr.
